Kelly Cut
Greenock
November 8th 2008
The Kelly Cut lies almost adjacent to the Greenock Cut at The Cornalees Centre near to Loch Thom only heading in a more southerly direction towards Wemyss Bay. Seventeen of the ramblers turned out for this walk of approx. 4 miles to a small reservoir which was constructed to supply additional water to Loch Thom. It's a very exposed walk with no shelter available en route and as you can see from the pictures leaves itself open to wind and rain making the walking a little bit more entertaining by trying to avoid the many rivulets and troughs on the way. The background history of the Kelly Cut itself is very similar to the G'Nock Cut, which was walked on September 13th of this year should you want any local history on why it was constructed.
I would just like to add that the weather was not looking too favourable when we left the car park this morning, but you know the old saying " you've got to see the countryside in all weathers" and I'm glad to say it did turn out for the better and everyone enjoyed their day out.
