Parish Summer Fete
Despite the wind and rain, the Summer Fete was not a total wash out. After expenses of approx £133, we raised £497.92. A big vote of thanks to those who organised the stalls, set up the covers and manned the stalls. ECT, a local amateur dramatic group entertained us and the children seemed to enjoy the bouncy castle etc.
Sanctuary Lamp
This week the Sanctuary Lamp is in memory Mrs Mary Josephine Ward. Leonora Goodwin, her daughter, made the request for it.
Sponsored Walk
Paul McKenzie, one of our musicians, is undertaking a sponsored Walk of the West Highland Way to raise funds for CHAS (Childrens Hospice Association Scotland) and Macmillan Cancer Support. The walk is taking place from 15th-21st August and will involve walking 105miles, in other words the whole West Highland way to Fort William. There are sponsor sheets in the Foyer to sponsor Paul in his hike. Please support Paul and these worthwhile charities. Sponsor money can be given to Fr Paul or to a member of the McKenzie family.
Sick List
Names that have been on the sick list for a number of months have been removed. If you wish a name to remain on the list, please speak to Fr. Paul
National Pilgrimage to Carfin
This will be held on Sunday, 6 September at 3.00pm in honour of St John Ogilvie. The chief celebrant will be Cardinal O’Brien, and the preacher will be Bishop Joe Toal. The special guest will be Bishop Jacques Perrier, Bishop of Tarbes & Lourdes who will give a short address. There is a list in the Foyer for those interested in going to Carfin. If there is enough interest a coach may be hired for the trip.
First Day at School
- I straightened up his cap again, I rearranged his tie. In my heart I said a prayer, “Please, God, don’t let him cry.” He walked away and left me, like a soldier with his pack, and although my heart was aching I dared not call him back.
- Just as he reached the corner his step got rather slow. He looked so small and helpless, but I had to let him go. I can’t call him my baby now, ‘twould make him feel a fool. My baby is grown up now, for today he started school.
