Papal Mass at Bellahouston Park 16th September 201
0
The Papal visit to Scotland was a great success, with millions of people around the world watching history being made in Scotland. All our pilgrims returned, safe and sound. The Pope addressed the laity in a special way saying about secularism in society:
“..I appeal in particular to you, the lay faithful, in accordance with your baptismal calling and mission, not only to be examples of faith in public, but also to put the case for the promotion of faith’s wisdom and vision in the public forum.
Society today needs clear voices which propose our right to live, not in a jungle of self-destructive and arbitrary freedoms, but in a society which works for the true welfare of its citizens and offers them guidance and protection in the face of their weakness and fragility.
Do not be afraid to take up this service to your brothers and sisters, and to the future of your beloved nation.”
If you were at the mass, please send any pictures you may have taken to the parish email address so a collage may be created of the day.
Pope gazes on crucifix loaned by St John Bosco’s for the occasion
The Holy Father’s sacristy was furnished with a free standing crucifix from our very own sacristy. It was borrowed by one of the masters of ceremony for the occasion. As the Pope vested, and as he processed from and back to the sacristy, he would have reverenced the crucifix. Hopefully there are photos of the interior of the sacristy!
Both catholic parishes in Erskine owe a debt of thanks to Major Elizabeth and Captain Kenneth Sandison of the Salvation Army, Bridgewater, for allowing us to use their hall as a rally point for our pilgrims and the buses. Many thanks!

Our process for baptising or bringing converts into communion with the Catholic Church will begin soon. If you know of anyone who has expressed an interest in learning more about our faith then encourage them to speak to Fr. Paul or Martin. The RCIA process leads people through the teachings of the Church and learning about the traditions and practice of our faith.
