Lourdes Pilgimage
The pre-Pilgrimage meeting will take place in St Mirin's Cathedral Hall on Sunday 27th June at 2pm. All those who are travelling with the Diocesan Pilgrimage on 2nd July are requested to be present or to be represented at the meeting for final instructions re departure times etc.
St Vincent de Paul Society
The society was set up by Blessed Fredrick Oznam and some of his friends in response to the crushing poverty they had witnessed in Paris. Today, the society continues the work of its founders by helping those who may find them in financial difficulty or are poor in other ways- loneliness, illness or being marginalised. If you or someone you know may feel that our St Vincent de Paul conference could help in some way, please speak to one of the members of the society or to Fr Paul. Matters are always held in the strictest confidence.
Diocesan Pilgrimage to Carfin
The Diocesan pilgrimage to Carfin will take place this year on Sunday 15th August, the Solemnity of the Assumption. The day begins at 3pm. The day will mirror a day in Lourdes. There is a list available in the Foyer for parishioners to indicate whether they would be interested in attending the day at Carfin on a coach. If you know of anyone who is ill and would like to attend the day, please add their name to the list also. This will allow the organisers to plan for the number of sick and the number of helpers required.
Gift aid
There are some Gift Aid envelopes waiting for collection. Please take yours away if you have signed up for th Gift Aid scheme and still pay tax. If you have not received your Gift Aid envelopes yet, please speak to Fr Paul.
Retiral of Mrs MacKay
As you know, Mrs Josephine MacKay will retire from St John Bosco’s at the end of this term. She arrived as a young headmistress 24 years ago and has be tireless in her efforts to make St John Bosco’s such a great school. There will be an opportunity next Sunday at the 10am Mass to thank her for her many years of service to education and to the parish. After mass there will be a small reception for all parishioners. Home baking would be gladly accepted for this. Please bring the home baking to the parish house on Saturday or to the cry chapel on Sunday morning.
Peter’s Pence
Next week is the Feast of Sts Peter & Paul. It is tradition to have a collection called Peter’s Pence. This collection is used to help the Pope pay for the upkeep of many charities and good works and the general running of the Vatican. It is viewed as a way for Catholics to show their loyalty and devotion to the Holy Father. |
